Aligned with its vision and mission to expand quality of life and independence, and to support underserved and economically disadvantaged populations in New York City, Comunilife has developed programs for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS that facilitate the delivery and coordination of the wide array of services necessary to assure a healthier tomorrow and enhance their quality of life. As in the mental health programs, the Agency’s trademark practice model that incorporates cultural competency, Comunilife’s Multicultural Relational Approach to Diverse Populations, is used by the professional staff in their work with persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Congregate Housing

Doña Rosita, I is a congregate housing that provides permanent housing for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Bronx that have been referred by the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA). The residence is targeted for adults living with HIV/AIDS that are single and in need of structure and supervision. Doña Rosita, I is a congregate housing, which consists of 40 studio apartments with laundry facilities on each floor and a large, communal dining/recreation area.

Residents are provided with a wide range of supports:

    • Rent subsidy
    • Daily meal
    • Individual Case Management
    • Mental health counseling
    • Substance abuse counseling
    • Recreation
    • Crisis intervention
    • Carfare reimbursement

Doña Rosita, II Congregate Housing-Brooklyn

Doña Rosita, II is a congregate housing that provides permanent housing for people living with HIV/AIDS in Brooklyn that have been referred by the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA). The congregate housing is targeted for adults living with HIV/AIDS that are single and in need of structure and supervision. Doña Rosita, II congregate cousing consists of 60 studio apartments with laundry facilities and a large, communal dining/recreation area.

Residents are provided with a wide range of supports:

    • Mental health counseling
    • Substance abuse counseling
    • Recreation
    • Crisis intervention
    • Carfare reimbursement

Comunilife’s Transitional Residences provide 112 housing units for persons living with HIV/AIDS that have been referred by HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) for up to 180 days. Each residence is targeted for single men and women that are living with HIV/AIDS. The residence also serves single adults living with HIV/AIDS that have been incarcerated, and/or have chemical dependence.

While living at the Transitional Residence, clients are provided with a wide range of supports:

  • Case management
  • Three daily meals
  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Mental health counseling
  • Recreation therapy with emphasis on structured socialization services
  • Crisis intervention
  • Carfare reimbursement

Aligned with Comunilife’s vision and mission to expand quality of life and independence, invest in a healthier tomorrow, and extend access, the Scattered-Site Apartment Program is designed to assist people with HIV/AIDS to gain entry to affordable, available housing through rent subsidy as well as case management and a variety of supports. The Program operates over 300 apartments for persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Bronx, Queens, or Brooklyn that have been referred by the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA). It is targeted for families and single men and women that are living with HIV/AIDS. In addition, the Program serves persons living with HIV/AIDS that have been incarcerated, have been homeless or in nursing homes, and/or have chemical dependence.

All the sites in the Program provide the same range of services and supports, as well as multilingual/multicultural staffing who speak the range of languages represented by the populations served, namely English, Spanish, Creole, and African languages in the Bronx Site; English, Spanish, and French in Long Island City; and English and Spanish in Brooklyn.

Residents of the Scatter-Site Apartment Program receive a wide range of supports, as needed:
